Musicals! The Musical, An Improvised Musical Pitch Show
Take a break from the screens and come out for a free in-person musical theater experiment. Your vote decides the show’s fate!
Save the date for the free debut of Musicals! The Musical, An Improvised Musical Pitch Show on Thursday, December 12th.
How the Show Works:
In this brand-new Baltimore experiment, you’ll watch a fictional “musical writing workshop” on stage with our cast of “famous” composers and writers.
Will the show be about a courtroom drama set in a sorority house, or maybe a Western featuring ballerinas? The choice is up to you! Based on audience requests, you’ll sit back and experience the beginning of a few ideas presented as a big improvised musical number.
Then, we’ll hold pitch sessions where our talented cast shares their ideas and check in with your questions and input.
You’ll vote to choose which musical makes it to the big live theater finale!
The winning idea gets “produced” instantly. You’ll see the entire story come together in a full, improvised musical show complete with heroes, villains, and a grand finale.
Where: Baltimore Improv Group, 1727 N Charles St, Baltimore MD
When: Thursday, December 12
Time: 7-8 p.m.
Cost: Free!
This event is free, so bring your friends, family, or anyone who is willing to leave the house
This is the first time we have attempted crowd-sourced voting. Will it work? It’s unlike anything you’ll see if you stay home watching TV or online. You get to be part of the process that connects to a community of local creators.
We’re not AI. It’s neither artificial or intelligent. And the only GPT we need is Getting Pitches Tuned.
Stay for a Night of Free Shows: The fun doesn’t stop there! After the free 7 pm show, stick around for another free show at 8 pm. Check out the full schedule at bigimprov.org/shows. This special show is part of THE LAB, Baltimore Improv Group’s experimental hour.
About Baltimore Musical Improv
At Baltimore Musical Improv, we create entire musicals from scratch, filled with improvised songs that come to life on the spot. No two shows or workshops are the same because every scene and every song is made up on the fly.
We start with a word from the audience, and from there, our team jumps into a new story, bringing brand-new characters and scenes to life. As a nonprofit project fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, our mission is to bring the joy of improvised musicals to Baltimore.
Our Mission and Community
Baltimore Musical Improv is all about building a community around improvised musicals in Baltimore. Everyone who joins helps make our group unique, and we’re excited to grow together. We want to see more teams regularly performing improvised musicals and songs, and we’re working to bring shows all over the city. We also partner with groups like Highwire Improv and the Baltimore Improv Group to offer even more classes, workshops, and shows.
What Is an Improvised Musical?
An improvised musical is just like any musical you’ve seen, but every song, scene, and character is created right there on stage. Our performers take a single word from the audience and build a full story from that, including improvised songs that fit the moment. Each show is one-of-a-kind, so you’ll never see the same musical twice.
What Will I See at a Show?
At our shows, you’ll watch as we create an improvised musical from scratch. We take an audience suggestion and make up everythingcharacters, conflicts, resolutions, and, of course, improvised songs. Our stories are filled with heroes, villains, friendships, and surprises, and they all unfold right before your eyes. The songs are totally original, made up on the spot, and they bring the whole musical to life!
Is It Really Improvised?
Yes, every single part of it is improvised! There’s no script, no plan, and no safety net. Each improvised musical is made up right in the moment, and every improvised song you hear is unique. It’s all about creativity, teamwork, and embracing the unexpected.
