Rooted/Growing Bicentennial Exhibition

From January 29 through March 8 2026, the Maryland Institute College of Arts presents its undergraduate Bicentennial Exhibition.
This year’s exhibition, Rooted / Growing is curated by the students of the Exhibition Development Seminar program in conjunction with their professor Joo Yun Lee, celebrating two centuries of creativity, the exhibition honors the intertwined histories of MICA and the city of Baltimore, whose relationship is defined by resilience and mutual transformation. Rooted/Growing aims to highlight the memories, stories, and histories of all peoples that have contributed to the shared experience of the college and all of those to come.

The Exhibition will have a catered reception with a live performance, open to the public, followed by two workshops over the course of its duration.

The exhibition hours are Monday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Admission is free. Please note that on weekends, outside visitors will need to be accompanied by a MICA community member with a MICA ID in order to swipe and gain access into respective buildings.

Workshop Information: Disability/Justice: A zine making workshop with Jen White Johnson (open to all)
February 15, 2026, 1-4 PM, Brown Center Atrium
A zine making workshop led by artist, educator, and Disability rights activist, Jen White Johnson. Attendees will learn how to create their own zine, with a focus on the power of creation as a form of resistance, and the impact of art within activism, with a focus on disability justice and engaging in conversations about accessibility within the MICA and Baltimore communities.

Poetry/Performance: A creative writing workshop with Unique Robinson (limited slots)
February 21, 2026, 2-4 PM, Mosher Building – 1st Floor
A poetry-writing workshop led by Baltimore native and prolific poet and performer Unique Robinson. Participants will be guided through writing and performing their own poems, in conversation with the exhibition Rooted/Growing and reflecting on community, growth, Baltimore pride, and the documentation of memories and histories.
