Show Your Soft Side Presents Softie Homecoming
Only a punk would hurt a cat or dog, this is what Sande Riesett, Caroline Griffin and Lori Smyth decided after three horrific animal abuse headlines came out in Baltimore in 2010. In response, the women decided to take a stand against animal abuse by solving the problem at its root. Now spanning the country, Show Your Soft Side is a volunteer-based organization of over 250 Softies working together to change mindsets that could lead to animal abuse featuring pro athletes, musicians and celebrities.
This July, Softies from the Class of 2011 through 2023 will come to Baltimore to attend an unforgettable event, accompanied by adoptable, four-legged “dates” on their arms from a number of local rescues and BARCS. The Softie Homecoming promises an evening filled with head bonks, cuddles, delicious food from Baltimore’s finest restaurants, and the opportunity to crown the Softie Homecoming King and Queen, voted on by guests of the event through donations.
Our Softies are breaking down the misconception that hurting animals is manly or tough, said Sande Riesett. By proudly showing off the adoptable dates at Softie Homecoming, Softie celebrities like Nick Boyle and John Rallo, we’re showing that loving animals is just as manly as playing for the Ravens for fighting in the MMA.
An online auction will run from Friday, July 7 through Thursday, July 13. Guests attending the event will have the chance to view and bid on the auction items displayed on large screens, while physical raffle baskets will also be available exclusively at the venue.
