Tarik McKeython is a multi-instrumentalist, artist, producer, writer, engineer and much more. Born and raised in the DC area, he picked up Saxophone in grade school and studies to this day at Morgan State University where he is currently a graduating senior. Tarik also studied music production growing up, allowing him to teach himself various other instruments including bass guitar and the piano. Early influences include John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Fela Kuti, Pharoah Saunders, Sun Ra, Miles Davis, Sonny Stitt, Cannonball Adderly, Thelonious Monk and much more. And not only jazz, but a young Tarik was interested in all kinds of music ranging from world music to classical and Hip-hop to Soul. Being a person rooted in spirituality, Tarik has a deep connection to his music, doing the divine work of healing and channeling through his art. Also known as the Emperor King Bishop, his music can be found on all streaming platforms.

On his return from performing at the 65th Monterey Jazz Festival Tarik had the inspiration to form “The Answer ‘ band and collective. “The Answer ‘ serves as the bridge between traditionalism and Avant Garde composed freedom and deep improvisation. Being able to merge the cool of Miles Davis with the fearlessness of Monk, the creativity of Sonny Rollins with the spirituality of Pharoah Saunders. All the members of “The Answer” are students of music and hold the lineage and tradition in high respect, but all members also have the spirit of innovation and positive forward thinking to push the music forward into new spaces and deep places. “The Answer” is literally the answer to all of life’s problems and sorrows. “The Answer” can heal, teach, preach and make you groove and dance. The goal of The Answer is to touch souls, hearts, and minds of the masses to spread unconditional love through art.

The Answer is composed of current students and alumni of the Morgan State Jazz Combo and Close friends and like minded musicians.
