Mount Clare Museum hosts a special program highlighting African-American heritage:

By the late eighteenth century, enslaved and free Black Baltimoreans had established a strong community striving for independence.

Henry Harden, enslaved at Mount Clare, was already a leader in Baltimore’s African Methodist community when Margaret Tilghman Carroll manumitted him in 1815.

On November 1, 2025 visit Mount Clare and learn how he and other Black leaders in Baltimore helped establish the African Methodist Episcopal Church from scholar Teresa Moyer.

Program starts at 11 a.m. Admission and parking on-site is free. Light refreshments will be served.
