Ulysses In Its Own Time: A Bloomsday Celebration
With no shortage of critical assessment for James Joyce’s Ulysses since its publication in 1922, what did those living at the time, without benefit of Cliff’s Notes or Idiot’s Guides, think of this curious book? The debate was lively, often heated, and with apparently few indifferent to this frontal assault on the literary ramparts.
Bob Cronan and friends will be reading selected passages from Ulysses, along with bits of praise, measured critiques and withering brickbats hurled at the Big-Blue-Book-of-Bloom. Come listen and share your thoughts on this prose masterpiece, which continues to mystify and delight.
