What It's Like

Through engaging permanent and temporary exhibits, the BMI highlights industrial workers as the backbone of a thriving Baltimore, from its early days as a port city and manufacturing hub to its current incarnation as a leader in retail, tech, research, medicine and tourism. Take a look at—or even get your hands on—original and restored machinery from an 1860s cannery, 1920s garment loft, 1930s decker and 1930s print shop.

Don't Miss

The BMI is hosting its first outdoor exhibit, titled Women of Steel. Through photographs and first-person quotes, the exhibit will tell the stories of sacrifice, triumph and adversity faced by the women who worked at Bethlehem Steel’s Sparrows Point mill from the 1930s until the mill’s closure in 2012.
