What It's Like

Step inside the Maryland Center for History and Culture and you’re immediately immersed in the dynamic story of this state as told by artifacts of the people and events that shaped it. The 23,000 square feet of galleries in the museum features exhibits that showcase collections of artworks, fabrics, clothing, furniture and historic objects to engage and delight visitors. In the library, guests can explore more of Maryland’s past through books, journals, manuscripts, maps, documents and photographs.

MCHC serves as a leading center of Maryland history education through its onsite school tours, student research center, virtual field trips for all ages, traveling trunks, online digital learning resources, and professional development opportunities for teachers. MCHC also publishes scholarly material in the Maryland Historical Magazine, a biannual, peer-reviewed journal, and in select books that tell the story of Maryland and of the nation.
