Matriarch Coffee

Matriarch Coffee was established in 2020 by Jean Christophe Rusatira born and raised in Rwanda, Ernest Asiedu, born in Ghana and raised in NY, Michael Saunders, born and raised in Baltimore, and Dulani Christian, born and raised in the US Virgin Island. Matriarch Coffee is Baltimore-based, farm-to-cup specialty coffee business, certified under the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Program. The vision of Matriarch Coffee is to become the go-to brand for ethical and equitable coffee for specialty, sustainable and equitable coffee products that provide unique multicultural and lifestyle coffee experiences.  Matriarch Coffees are direct trade from locally owned farms and are roasted in small batches to optimize quality. By sourcing only Strictly High Grown coffees and coffees processed using different unique methods, these coffees provide unique taste notes to coffee lovers. Matriarch coffee ensures community consciousness by donating 10% of Matriarch Coffee’s profit to women-focused programs in coffee farming communities. In 2022 and 2023 alone, we have subsidized 153 livestock to coffee farmers in Rwanda and contributed to health insurance coverage  for 202 coffee farming community members.
