An Evening with Dr. Sylvia Earle at the National Aquarium
Join the National Aquarium on Wednesday, December 1 at 7 p.m. for “An Evening with Dr. Sylvia Earle,” internationally acclaimed oceanographer, marine biologist and author. This event, held in partnership with National Geographic and supported by the Marjorie Lynn Bank Endowment, will feature a lecture from Dr. Earle celebrating the release of her highly anticipated book National Geographic Ocean: A Global Odyssey.
National Geographic Ocean: A Global Odyssey offers readers a deeper look into the forces, habitats, creatures and global influence of the ocean. The 520-page coffee-table book includes full color photos of the worlds most fantastic seascapes, including over 100 maps and diagrams of seafloor and political maps of all Earth’s seas and oceans. Pre-signed copies of the beautifully illustrated book will be available for purchase during the event, courtesy of The Ivy Bookshop.
Dr. Earle, affectionately called Her Deepness by the New York Times, serves as President and Chairman of Mission Blue/The Sylvia Earle Alliance. In 1970, after being kept from joining a group of male scientists in undersea lab testing, she helped to recruit and lead a team of all-woman scientists for two weeks of underwater research. Throughout her career, driven by her passion for protecting marine wildlife and habitats, she has led over 100 expeditions and spent over 7,000 hours underwater.
The evening program will feature a keynote lecture by Dr. Earle and conclude with an audience Q&A hosted by National Aquarium CEO John Racanelli.
