Material Memory
Material Memory is an exhibition of Studio Art MFA students who are exploring the ways in which materials hold on. Imprinted in materials are stories of bodies, homes, migrations and moments. The materials in this exhibition are pressed, printed, sewn, painted, digitized, and meticulously appended. What is carried, what is preserved, and what is transformed lives in the fibers, surfaces, and structures of these works.
The artists in this exhibition have previously exhibited at The National Afro-American Museum, Museum of Northern California Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Pioneer Works and many others. Through their work, these artists challenge us to reconsider what is remembered, what is overlooked and how the past persists in the present.
Please join us for a reception on July 11 from 5-9 p.m.
