Natural Herstories Reception
Exhibition on View: September 10 – Nov 7, 2026
Opening Reception: Thursday, Sep 10, 2026 in conjunction with BROMO ART WALK
Maryland Art Place (MAP) is pleased to present Natural Herstories” exploring womxn artists’ complex relationships with the natural world, with a particular focus on artists who employ nature as an act of reclamation against colonialist narratives within their work.
Natural Herstories examines the intersections of patriarchy, colonialism, and systems of classification embedded within institutions such as natural history museums, the natural sciences, and the tradition of taxidermy. The exhibition draws parallels between the historical exercise of male power over nature, animal bodies, and female bodies alike. Through this framework, the exhibition proposes that womxn artists engage the natural world as both subject matter and a form of resistance, challenging histories of domination and subjugation imposed upon both the environment and the bodies that inhabit it.
Exhibiting artists to be announced.
