Solar Eclipse Watch Party

Celebrate the Total Solar Eclipse with MSC!

On Monday, April 8 the Moon will pass between the Sun and the Earth, tracing a narrow path of darkness across North America. Here in Baltimore, more than 88% of the Sun will be obstructed and we want you to join our watch party! Explore a variety of sun-safe viewing techniques, create your own pinhole viewer, and customize a pair of eclipse glasses starting at 10 a.m. At 2 p.m. we’ll switch over to watch party mode. Find a spot outside and put those new viewing techniques to work, or check out the view from totality—areas where the Sun will be completely blocked by the Moon, from different viewing locations throughout our exhibit halls and in the planetarium. Plus, we’ll be offering timed tickets to our rooftop observatory.

You won’t want to miss this one—the next Total Solar Eclipse viewable from Baltimore isn’t until 2052!

To observe the Sun during the eclipse you must use an indirect viewing method, like a cereal box viewer, or wear a pair of sun-safe eclipse glasses. Do not look at the sun with your bare eyes.

All activities are free with paid admission or membership. Solar eclipse glasses will be included with admission while supplies last.
