A tribute to the historic album “Eric Dolphy at the Five Spot” Volumes I and II, originally recorded live at the Five Spot Café in New York City on July 16, 1961. The album features Dolphy on alto saxophone, flute, and bass clarinet, Booker Little on trumpet, Mal Waldron on piano, Richard Davis on bass, and Ed Blackwell on drums. This prolific ensemble recorded both volumes of this live album in one evening, with no edits.

Each member of Dolphy’s quintet was amongst the greatest of all time on their respective instrument. As an ensemble, they worked together with profound camaraderie to create some of the most exciting music in what would become known as “The New Thing”.
