Indian Pianist/composer UTSAV LAL, raga pianist returns to An Die Musik Live to present a concert of Indian Classical Music through his distinctive voice on the piano. Recognized as the rarest of pianists for his ingenious interpretations of Indian Classical Music on a Western instrument, Utsav has a stellar career performing at leading world venues and festivals including Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Southbank Center. His music is deeply influenced by the Indian Dhrupad music tradition and captures the innate beauty of Indian ragas, reflecting a vast array of sources from his deep exposure to Jazz, Celtic music, contemporary classical and the experimental improvisation tradition.
The concert will begin with a solo piano Alap-Jod-Jhala traditional style raga improvisation. Utsav will be joined for this concert by Enayet Hossain on tabla. Enayet is a leading tabla player of the present generation and has played with some of the most renowned Indian musicians. His World Fusion group, Melodic Intersect has charted heavily on US charts. The duo will perform Gat (raga compositions) set to varied rhythmic time cycles in an improvisational musical dialogue to present a concert of Indian Classical Music as never heard before!
