Film Screening: N.P. 2100: Unearthing a Community's Resilience in West Baltimore
N.P. 2100 has been called the “best film about Baltimore” by Dr. Lawrence Brown, author of The Black Butterfly: The Harmful Politics of Race and Space in America, who describes it as a “lyrical tribute to found family and the creativity alive in Baltimore’s neighborhoods.”
Directed by Yev K’banchik, N.P. 2100 is a documentary portrait of West Baltimore rooted in the work of the Holistic Life
Foundation, a nationally recognized nonprofit bringing mindfulness, breath, and movement practices to youth and
communities most impacted by systemic inequity.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the creators of the film.
Maranda Kosten, Producer/Director
Maranda Kosten is a producer, director, and actor with over 25 years of experience in storytelling for stage and screen, with a focus on documentary and community-centered media projects. She is co-owner of Pinecone Creative, a boutique production company in Baltimore. Her portfolio includes Healing City Baltimore: Moving Forward Together and I Never Said Goodbye. As producer of NP2100 (short) that will become Child Soldier Teacher, she helped shape the film’s development through subject research, participant interviews, and creative collaboration, while also overseeing partnerships, production logistics, and strategic planning to guide the project from production through audience engagement and community outreach. She is currently in production on Homeshare, a documentary following returning citizens recently released from prison as they enter a radical housing program that pairs them with strangers who offer a room and a second chance, as well as a short film on the origins and impact of Debbie Friedman’s Mi Shebeirach prayer.
Yevgeniy K’banchik, Director of Photography
Yevgeniy is a Ukrainian-born filmmaker based in Baltimore. A graduate of the Moscow Film School, Yev has diverse experience in film production, with a focus on cinematography and directing. For over two decades, K’banchick has been working as an independent filmmaker, producing a range of experimental films and documentaries. K’banchik’s films have received numerous recognitions and awards: his film Brood X has won multiple nominations at film festivals, including Best Experimental Film in Tokyo Shorts award, semifinalist of ARFF Berlin Film Festival, and Best Experimental in the New York Independent Cinema Awards. His award winning film, I Never Said Goodbye, available on streaming platforms, and his current project, NP2100 will be shown in festivals around the world.
In addition to his independent work, K’banchik is co-owner of Pinecone Creative, a film production company dedicated to creating impactful videos for organizations and institutions focused on social justice and advocacy.
