Mount Vernon

Located north of downtown, Mount Vernon is known as Baltimore’s cultural center. What were once the grand mansions of Baltimore's 19th-century industrialists are now museums, galleries, shops and restaurants.

Take in the masterpieces of art at the Walters Art Museum, or go avant garde at the Contemporary Museum. Bookworms must visit the Peabody Library, an absolutely impressive six-story library. Mount Vernon is also home to America’s first Catholic Cathedral, recently restored. And definitely stop at the Maryland Historical Society to view the original copy of "The Star-Spangled Banner".
