Family-Friendly Things to Do in Baltimore

Top Ideas for Family Fun Time

With so many kid-friendly attractions in the Inner Harbor, plus historic monuments and museums offering unique children’s programs, Baltimore is an ideal vacation spot for the whole family.  Here are some top choices for things to do as a family in Baltimore.

The National Aquarium

There's nothing like seeing a child's eyes widen as they discover new animals, and there's no shortage of things to discover at the National Aquarium. Located in the heart of the Inner Harbor, your family can spend hours exploring everything from sharks to an authentic coral reef. You can even go behind the scenes with the dolphin trainers!

Port Discovery Children's Museum

Just a few short blocks away from the National Aquarium and the Inner Harbor is the popular Port Discovery Children’s Museum. Permanent exhibits have been designed to stimulate the imagination and encourage play. Check out Miss Perception's Mystery House if your little one enjoys being inquisitive, and KidWords — a three-story urban treehouse - if your kids have plenty of energy to burn!

Maryland Zoo in Baltimore

Hop on the Metro Subway from downtown for a day out at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. The Zoo offers hands-on experiences like camel rides; behind-the-scenes tours of the Giraffe House, and unique exhibitions about polar bears, African penguins and more. The zoo even hosts some special events for the "big kids" – during the Memorial Day weekend Brew at the Zoo event, you can enjoy a full day’s admission plus unlimited beer sampling and live music.

Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine

Think your kids won't go for a day at a history museum? Fort McHenry's real-life military enactments, music displays and Junior Ranger badge program are sure to make history buffs of them in no time.

Orioles Baseball

What family doesn’t love a day out at the ballpark? Conveniently located minutes from downtown, you can bring the family to Orioles Park at Camden Yards to take in a game, nosh on ballpark crabcakes, and, if you're not too tired after all of that, take in some sports history at the Babe Ruth Birthplace & Museum or the Sports Legends Museum.

Urban Pirates

With Urban Pirates the kids will learn to live like a pirate onboard the Fearless ship as it sails around the Harbor. Look the part with vests and tattoos as you hunt for stolen treasure and fire the water cannons. As you learn pirate songs, dances, and slang, you’ll feel like part of the crew in no time.

Maryland Science Center

Exercise your imagination and challenge your mind at the Maryland Science Center, located in the Inner Harbor. Three floors of interactive exhibits teach kids of all ages about everything from aliens and outer space to cells and kinetic energy, with opportunities to participate in unique experiments.
